Cable Splicing

Hartline Supply specializes in two types of splices. The splice done is determined by the cable manufacturer's original construction of the wire conductor. The wire conductor is either a rope-lay type or concentric-lay type.

Rope-Lay Splice
Generally requires seven welds.

Concentric Splice
Generally requires three welds.

Finishing the Splice
Insulation, Shielding, etc.

Vulcanization
With the rope lay or concentric method, flexibility is built into the splice. Some competitors will offer customers a lower price to do a splice. They fail to tell the customer that they will be using a lower quality method. Many competitors will do a butt weld, which is one large, stiff weld. It would have the same effect as a crimp splice - there is no flexibility. This makes it easy for the wire to break when the cable is being moved or bent. In most instances, the customer does not know that they were sold an inferior product.
